Rural living can sometimes feel like you’re running your own utility companies. Take good care of the systems that take care of you.
Septic Inspection
An annual inspection can ensure your pump is in working order and your tank is draining correctly and does not need to be pumped out.
Well Water Testing
Annual testing of your well water for coliform bacteria and nitrate, among other contaminants, can ensure you’re consuming only fresh, clean water. An additional test is recommended anytime there is a change in taste or color, or flooding in the area.
Replace Water Filter
If you have a well, you likely have a whole home water filter to keep rust and sediment from making their way through your plumbing. Replacing the filter every 6 months keeps your pressure from being impacted by a clogged filter.
Add Water Conditioner Salt
If your well (or even municipality) provides hard water, it can cause build-up in and damage to your appliances and plumbing fixtures, and even stain your sinks and tubs. The most common type of water conditioner uses a salty brine to extract those minerals from the water and flush them harmlessly down the drain. The canister of salt pellets that create that brine should be topped-off regularly to ensure continued operation.
Service and Test Backup Generator
An operational backup generator provides peace of mind and can be a godsend in an emergency. Make sure it’s serviced annually and you have enough fuel on-hand to last as long as you need.
